Product News / 2017 03 14 PC-DMIS 2017 R1
PC-DMIS 2017 is the latest release of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence’s world-leading dimensional measurement software package for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
‘R1’ is short for ‘Release 1’ as there are two scheduled major releases for PC-DMIS in 2017, with continued service pack updates to ensure maximum reliability of the platform. PC-DMIS is the world’s most widely-used measurement software, with over 60 000 seats in place worldwide. Its powerful capabilities enable users to measure everything from simple prismatic parts to the most complex aerospace and automotive components.
PC-DMIS What's New & Release Notes
Never miss the useful new features in the latest PC-DMIS release with the ‘What’s New’ popup on startup. This new popup not only brings visibility to the new features in PC-DMIS, but also provides links to the Support Centre for more in depth information and tutorial videos. Release notes have also been reconfigured, putting the enhancements at the top so you can find and learn to use them faster and start implementing them immediately.
Last 32-bit Version
PC-DMIS 2017 R1, released in January 2017, will be the final 32-bit version of PC-DMIS supported by Hexagon. If you have not already done so, please update your measurement device operating system and hardware (personal computer), if necessary, to a modern 64-bit system with a more current and stable Windows operating system such as Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or Windows 7. Moving to a modern operating system offers dramatically enhanced security, broad device choice for a mobile workforce, higher user productivity, and a lower total cost of ownership through improved management capabilities.
Application Speed Improvements
Continued efforts for a faster and more responsive PC-DMIS experience.
Faster Path Optimisation
New multithreading algorithm provides better results faster. A menu selection allows you to pick the legacy Path Optimisation or the new tool that is being previewed in PC-DMIS 2017 R1.
Point Cloud Improvements
A new Caliper tool for two-point checks can be found on the QuickCloud and QuickMeasure toolbars that works like a physical caliper. You can now filter either real-time while scanning or use a post-processing filter to remove laser points typically caused by secondary reflections or ‘noise’ with the new Angle Filter. The Angle Filter setting is also available for Laser Auto Feature Extraction. This tool improves accuracy when measuring laser features by using the Max Incidence Angle filter to exclude scanned points on the opposite side of the part or on adjacent surfaces. Points are then easily visualised from the Laser Auto Feature dialogue box. Scan data now flows more smoothly into the Graphic Window with Improved Zoom and Rotation for Portable Scanners. The scanned part will rotate in the Graphic Window by following the sensor orientation, even when not scanning. Plus, a new Laser Line Filter provides real-time data reduction and smoothing.
Use QuickFeature now in the PC-DMIS Live Image View for faster workflow for optical and multisensor measurement devices. You get the same lightning-fast QuickFeature creation, now with no CAD necessary.
Now you can quickly create scan features in PC-DMIS with a click of a button. Simply press Shift + Ctrl button and then Click on a CAD polyline where you want the scan to start, then drag the pointer in the desired direction. Shift. Click. Drag. Scan. Done. This new workflow supports scan creation on both Polylines or on Single Surfaces, where polyline can be created with the recently added Section Cut command in PC-DMIS, no need to go back to the designer to have them added. QuickScans can be created from both open and closed curves as well as CAD surfaces, simply select Curve Mode to generate scans on Polylines or Curves or select Surface Mode to create scans on Single Surface.
The type of Scan created depends upon active Probe Type. When a Scanning Probe is Active, a Defined path with Find Norm scan will be generated, likewise, if a Touch Trigger Probe is active, a Normal with Master scan will be generated. The number of points in the path is controlled by the Scan Point Density setting.
Defined Path for AutoPlane
PC-DMIS 2017 R1 now allows AutoFeature creation with Defined hits where users can teach hit points by either clicking on CAD surfaces or by simply taking hits on the physical part. Until now, AutoPlane would generate hits on its own, based on a selected strategy. User Defined Path is used for Touch Trigger Probe (TTP) Free Form Strategy and All TTP strategies are now available for Manual and DCC mode. Defined Path is Default Path Generation method for TTP Free Form Plane Strategy when Machine is in Manual Mode. Perimeter Path is default Path Generation method for TTP Free Form Plane Strategy when Machine is in DCC Mode.
A new Feature-Sensor Mapping tool assigns or maps features to selected probe types on multisensor measurement devices. Use this new tool when importing Inspection Plans or to simplify inspection routine creation by allowing PC-DMIS to automatically generate Load/Probe commands.
Graphic Item Visibility
Improved accessibility to elements to show and hide on graphics window in extended Graphic Items toolbar.
Teamcenter Support, Improved GD&T Validation and NX DCI experience
PC-DMIS now offers the option to treat Teamcenter as a file server. Also, dimensional checks have been added to the PMI validation tool and the NX Direct CAD Interface has been reworked for improved functionality and stability.
The new Size command simplifies computing and reporting of local and global sizes as per the ISO 14405-1 or ASME Y14.5 standards. The ISO 14405-1 and the ASME Y14.5 standards define local and global actual sizes. For ASME Y14.5, the allowed features are cylinders, opposed parallel planes (also known as 3D widths), spheres, circles (cylinder cross sections) and 2D widths (3D width cross sections). ASME Y14.5 defines the unrelated actual mating envelope and the local size. For ISO 14405-1, the allowed features are cylinders, 3D widths, and their cross sections. Over twenty modifiers are defined in ISO 14405-1. You can combine these modifiers in various ways to create a specification operator for size. Separate specification operators are allowed for the upper and lower size limits. This means that thousands of different kinds of size calculations exist.
PC-DMIS 2017 R1 marks the debut of a new Standard Operator Interface (SOI) for inspection routines based on user feedback from recent survey from pcdmisforum.com. Inspect is the evolution of STI+, a Single Touch Interface built for the shop-floor production environment. STI+ was simple to configure from the administrator level and even simpler to use from the operator level tool to run PC-DMIS inspection routines without having to navigate PC-DMIS and Inspect brings this same workflow into a modern scalable platform with added features and benefits. Inspect comes as standard with PC-DMIS 2017 R1 so check it out today and see how it can help streamline your inspection processes.
Now you can always keep an eye on multiple inspection processes with the debut of configurable warnings from the new Notification Centre in PC-DMIS. This first version supports both embedded lights, as well as external light stacks. You can also configure multiple sound events from the PC speakers for quieter laboratory environments. Future development will include email and mobile notifications coming soon, so no matter where you need to be you can always be in sync with your inspection processes.
